OARDC Awarded $6.5 Million Grant for Biomass Research

01/23/13 – Ohio State University's Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) received $6.5 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Energy to test and expand a university-developed technology that can produce biogas from a variety of solid organic wastes and bioenergy crops. Sega Visits Akron Roundtable to Highlight Ohio Energy Potential

Sega, a former astronaut who twice flew in a space shuttle, was born in Northfield and graduated from Nordonia High School (Class of 1970) before going to the U.S. Air Force Academy. Read more.

Coal Plant Byproduct, If Spread on Farms, Could Fight Lake Erie Algae

01/08/13 – Researchers find that applying fluidized gas desulfurization (FGD) gypsum to crop fields can keep soluble phosphorus, which feeds the algae, from getting washed from the soil by heavy rains and then running off into streams and rivers and eventually into the lake. Read more.
